Side Discharge Batch Debarking

  • Three or more rotors intruding into a static bin
  • No transfer plates between the rotors – hence open bottom – patented feature
  • All or portions of the rotor disc interleaf to retain fibre – hence live floor – patented feature
  • Each successive rotor, from low position thru the high position, rotates at an increased rate to prevent pull thru.
  • Rotors are placed at a compound angle for optimized rotation.
  • High frequency of abrader blocks on the rotors.
  • Each disc carries a throat
  • Each rotor carries a helix or spiral.
  • Each rotor carries a specific selected interface.
  • Rotors can vary in diameter to suit the bin and the diet.
  • Discs can vary in diameter to provide desired overlap.
  • Tooling is flat and wide faced.
  • Rotors rotate and in turn agitate and tumble the fibre
  • Debarker is placed flat.
  • Abraders bruise the bark and create a weak point at the bark to fibre interface where the rubbing of log on log completes the bark removal process.
  • Wood is discharged in an aligned fashion out the side of the debarker – hence side discharge – patented feature

  • Fed over the side parallel to the rotor, grapple or button top feed, crane feed, cradle feed, surge decks, etc.

  • DEAL is the first commercial application of the open bottom life floor side discharge rotary debarker.

Benefits/customer value

  • Dry debarking
  • Does not require de-icing or thawing of frozen fibre
  • Can process small diameter and crooked material effectively
  • Live floor ensures rotation and eliminates plugging.
  • Processes short stems
  • Effectively debarks crooked 16' ASPEN stems

  • High capacity is generate by the ability to handle heavy loading due to live floor interleafing arrangement
  • Low maintenance costs.
  • Increase fibre utilization
  • Eliminates stem end contact with tooling

  • Stem surface quality is excellent.
  • Can handle material contaminated with inorganics or undesireables.
  • Can handle moderately limbed material and maintain production
  • Portable and in bush chipping applications.

  • Reduced footprint over conventional rotaries for the same thru put.
  • Typically 33% of same capacity open bottom debarkers
  • Typically 22% of same capacity closed bottom debarkers
  • For comparison;
  • 60 foot continuous feed RS330-60L DEAL Processor and 20 foot side discharge RS2L320T DEAL Processor have the same capacities
  • 35 cords per hour/75 cubic metres per hour under the most severe conditions.

  • Effectively handles large diameter stems

  • Can handle stems the full length of the bin.
  • Systems running to 30’ stems.

  • High tooth incidence reduces point pressure and depth penetration reducing white wood losses and improving surface appearance.

  • High tooth incidence promotes simultaneous stem debarking.
  • Lower white wood losses.
  • Full spectrum debarking applications.
  • Fibre optimization applications
  • Systems can always be operated to its optimum level.
  • Lends itself to full automation/robotics
  • Batch can be returned to ribbon or continuous feed quickly and with currently available equipment such as step feeders, jack ladders or log loaders.

  • Post debarker continuous feed is consistent and has no surges.
